Improving Your Website’s Optimization As a Business Owner

Did you know that on average, the typical internet user searches Google about 4 times a day?

Almost all of online experiences begin with a search. Google plays a significant role in both navigating the web as a consumer and being discoverable through your website as a business. With Google’s organic search responsible for almost 60% of the world’s website traffic, this search engine possesses great influence in bringing interested leads to your website and giving your business the opportunity to actually be found by your target audience.

In order for your website to be successful in converting potential consumers, it must have key components that actually allow your business to be found when searched. With the number one result in a Google search receiving approximately 32% of all clicks, it is crucial that your website is proficiently optimized for Google’s search engine to be higher up in the search rankings above your competitors.

But, with the Google search algorithm accounting for over 200 factors in ranking websites, where do you even begin in improving your website’s optimization to boost your spot in the search engine?

Within the past year, Google has released a more simple initiative of Web Vitals that allows businesses to focus on optimizing what is most important in how well their website operates for consumers, called Core Web Vitals. This initiative by the major search engine quanitfies the experience of your website, and where to improve that would optimize your site and ultimately place you higher in the search rankings. As a subset of Google’s Web Vitals, Core Web Vitals can be applied to all pages, is surfaced across all Google Tools, and should be measured by all site owners who want to receive higher traffic to their website. Not only does Core Web Vitals illustrate where to improve the quality of your website, but also in turn increases your searchability and helps your business optimize specifically for Google’s search engine.

In Core Web Vitals, there are three factors that are taken into account for your website’s user experience: page loading, interactivity aka responding to clicks, and visual stability as in the dimensions and shift. For all of these aspects, there are associated thresholds that ultimately give your website and score and place it into a category of good, needs improvement, or poor for each of the vitals. Instead of having to review the 200+ factors Google reviews in the search algorithm, Core Web Vitals allows site owners to clearly understand the quality of their website’s user experience, without having to be an expert at site performance.

As user experience is a top priority for users, improving your search rankings also in turn improves your website’s quality, which is further beneficial in converting the leads you are getting into recurring consumers of your business. Research has shown that for users, the amount of time it takes for a page to load is one of the most important factors when viewing a website. Without fast performance, your website’s users cannot really do anything with your page, such as understanding the brand of your business or its value. Core Web Vitals enrich SEO for your website in a way that benefits the discoverability of your website and the quality of your online presence overall.

Although ranking changes have not yet initiated, Google plans to make page experience an official google ranking factor for searches and officially incorporate Core Web Vitals into their search algorithm by the end of 2021. By optimizing your website for both your users and discoverability, your business will in result traffic in more quality leads to your website and have the opportunity to convert more revenue. There is no better opportunity for your business to understand SEO and how to improve your website than through Core Web Vitals, so take advantage now before you fall below on the search rankings, user experience, and ultimately miss out on potential consumers.
